X-Mas 2009
What a year... |
|
Dear friends, partners and sponsors,
year 2009 and my most successful season goes to
an end.
I want to use this e-mail to wish you reflective
and steady holidays and give you a short summary
of my sport year 2009.
Most of you know, my job situation wasn’t the
best the first few month, but my sports season
starts awesome…
2nd overall - 25k Veste-Veste run
3rd Bavarian Masters Champ, swim
3rd overall – Halfmarathon, Kronach
and 8th - Int. German Duathlon AG Champs
from june on my sport life started to rock…
2nd overall - Triathlon Bernburg
1st overall - Seelauf Ebing
6th -Triathlon AG Euro Champs Olympic Distance
1st overall - Triathlon Hofheim
…end of august - season peak 2009
INFERNO Triathlon
– the hardest triathlon on earth!!! 155k swim,
bike, mtb and 25k uphill run; 5.500 m altitude
difference with the finishlinie on top of the
Piz Gloria (2971m) in Switzerland!
As you all know, I gained much experienced in
extreme endurance events during the last years,
but the INFERNO was definitely the hardest race
I ever did.
In my eyes I was in an awesome shape and well
prepared but I placed only 67th
overall - I planned a Top 10-15 finish… so you
know I have to come back and fight against the
Piz Gloria again. Not in 2010, but nobody knows
what 2011 brings!
To finish season I always do a marathon… in
Frankfurt I placed somewhere in the first
10.000…
How will life continue?
After getting a
new job, I finished my sport season plan for
2010… beside a few runs and smaller triathlon, I
am racing IRONMAN 70.3 Switzerland in june and
IRONMAN Regensburg on august 1st.
And, if everything goes well, I will do one or
two more big events… please visit
www.christiankoehler.net
for more information!
I know, for an amateur athlete I am very lucky
getting this awesome support by so many
different companys! “Thank very much”
to you all and I am happy that nearly all
of you will continue your support in 2010.
Enough sport for now!
It is time to wish you, your families and
friends a MERRY X-MAS, Happy Holidays and Happy
New Year!
Wish you all the best and see you soon at a
starting line somewhere over the planet…
Cheers from Coburg, Germany

26.07.2009
1st overall @ Triathlon Hofheim |
|
I don’t know what happened… but I won that
thing!
Hofheim is definitely my favourite triathlon
and after three 3rd places from 2005 to 2007
I got in first at yesterdays Hofheim
Triathlon.
I went out of water as 3rd (thanks to my
bluesenventy HELIX)
but I had the better transition, so I jumped
as 2nd on the bike.
I needed almost 15k to catch the guy in
front… but he had no chance... :-)
So best bike split, 1:14 hrs incl T2, for a
nearly 50k course. So around 40k per hour…
Thanks to my awesome VALDORA PHX and my
CRATONI C-Flow!
I don’t know how much I was in the lead
after the bike, but I knew that I do have a
great run performance this year. So pushed
hard from km one to get time between me and
the following guys. Official measured course
with 10,4 km. I ran the second best time
with 38:15 min and had a 3 minutes lead at
the finish line!
What should I say, I am really happy and so
motivated for the INFERNO in four weeks!

6th cat @ European OD Championships and
fastest German |
|
21st Amateur overall |
|

Most of you know, that I love racing in
Holland... but this year was the first time,
I did an OD there: European Championships
Olympic Distance, Location: Holten, NL.
My goal was to become European Champion; ok
it was an ambitious aim, but hey "nothing
ventured, nothing gained"... Finally I
placed "only" 6th in my age in a very strong
field and 22nd amateur overall.
Non wetsuit race, 5th out water
in my Age Group wave, but I felt not really
good during the swim and I couldn't get my
rhythm until the dive into second loop after
750m… Out of water I had a two minutes
deficit to the future European Champ, what
is definitely too much. After a fast
transition and knowing my really good bike
performance this year I pushed really hard
the first flat 7,5 k to the city center of
Holten. Over the following two 16 k loops
through a very hilly national park, I
increased the speed as much as possible and
get into T2 with the 3rd bike split and 30
Seconds to the podium. Too bad that I didn't
know that at that time... I was in Holland
without supporters, so I had no idea where I
was placed and the following four 2,5 k
running loops had no possibilities to see
the leaders... At the end of loop three a
supporter of another German athlete called
me out: "1,5 minutes to the podium...", but
that was much too late. 1,5 minutes in 2.5
k... too bad that I am not Haile or knowing
how to fly... :-)
Anyway, I had an awesome run and ran
progressive times. I know I wasn't able to
win that race, but with knowing the time lag
between me and the guys in front of me, a
Top 3 finish will be surely possible.
Summary: awesome race, with a (for Holland)
challenging bike course and a city in total
triathlon fever (reminds me a bit of Roth).
Thanks for reading!

Veste-Coburg" |
|
Double
challenges are getting my specialty!
When I
came home Saturday night, I saw the start
banner of our 10k Veste Run in my street…
Think you know what happend :-), I ran that
thing sunday morning and placed 19th overall
from around 700 with more than 1 Minute
faster than last year…
After a day off yesterday I am getting back
into training today with a final training
block for the INFERNO Triathlon on august
22nd. Only with a short break for my
favorite triathlon in Hofheim on july 26th! |

1st overall @ "Seelauf"Ebing |
|
another race this week... After two
triathlon the last weekend I had to run a
5.6k Cross Run last Friday, to complete
my hardcore race week... Dont ask why, but I
had to run from the Top and pushed much to
hard the first loop. I won that thing
but I am not really happy with my
performance... |

15.06.2009
2nd overall @ Triathlon Bernburg |
|
after my not satisfying race at the Bavarian
Champs I raced another OD on sunday and
placed 2nd overall.
The Facts: First out of water together with
an other guy. After a few meters on the bike
I overtook him and was on the lead
for around 25k. Than I was catched by two
good together working guys from the same
club (to bad I am having no disc... that
would have helped to follow). Anyway, I got
them always in sight knowing my good run
performance the last months... So when I got
into T2 I saw the guy placed on two running
out of the transition area. After 1km I
overtook him and could repeat that after
another 1,5km with the leader. Again in
front I increased the speed for about 2,5k
to get a few space between me and my chasers.
I am not sure but I think I lost time
between km 5,5 and 7 as the guy on the bike
told me: you`re 500m in front... Too bad,
cause I was catched by a former GDR runner
1,5km before the finish line and wasn`t able
to follow. Overall I placed second with a 40
Seconds defizit to the first and won my category.

Bavarian OD Triathlon Championships |
|
what a stupid race...
a few facts:
start: in waves with 1 minute time between
each wave. I was in the third wave... so I wasn`t able to swim
until the
second loop, and too bad that I am one of
the best swimmers in Bavaria this year...
anyway, very relaxed 22nd swim time...
bike:
non drafting race and 30 people packs... I
am so sick of that! it doesnt help that you
are
a strong biker when you are in front of a
big pack which is drafting on you.
run: after T2 I was so pissed off that damn race
that I decided to relax myself and become a
normal finisher... Too bad
that I did not realize that I was already near
or in
the Top 20 (damn wave start), so I jogged the 10k
to the finish line and gave a better placing away.
In summary I finished
42nd overall. All the guys I had beaten @
Baur-Triathlon were placed in the Top 15... |

12th overall @ Baur-Triathlon Altenkunstadt |
|
had a great last sunday... After four days
sightseeing and running around in London I
raced in one of my favorite ODs in my area.
Official 14.2 Celicius water temperature, so
the course was shorted down to 1000m. For a
swim specialist like me not the best thing,
anyway, cause of my awesome
blueseventy HELIX
wetsuit I got out of water on 8th
position and catched three more athletes in
T1. On the following 4 x 10 k bike loop I
had a great performance and I get into the
Top 5. I am sure my new
CRATONI C-Flow Time
Trial
helmet helped a lot! Together with eight
more guys I came into T2 and tried to push
really from the beginning. With a time
around 37 min for the 10 k, I placed myself
on a 12th overall rank 30 sec away from the
Top 10. Too bad, but I am on the right way
and really motivated for Bavarian and Euro
Champs in two resp. four weeks.

that) and a very slow second run to the
finish line...
Result: 8th category German Champs, 11th cat.

halfmarathon
Staffelstein |
 |
the plan was to repeat the awesome result
from end of march and get a time around 1:20
hrs.
Too bad that I got sick with a strong
flu on eastern and I didnt get 100% healthy
until this morning. So it is hard to believe,
that I ran a 1:23,57 (not a bad time for me
on a healthy day anyway) and placed 34th
overall from nearly 1000 starters.
It is a
moot point to think about what could happen
if I am having day like this when I am
healthy. Anyway, I am definately on the right
way... |
